16 de Novembro – Dia Internacional da Tolerância

O Dia Internacional da Tolerância foi instituído pela ONU através da resolução 51/95 da UNESCO, a ser comemorado anualmente no dia 16 de novembro.

A Declaração da ONU fez parte do evento sobre o esforço internacional do Ano das Nações Unidas para a Tolerância. Nela, os estados participantes reafirmaram a “fé nos Direitos Humanos fundamentais” e ainda na dignidade e valor da pessoa humana, além de poupar sucessivas gerações das guerras por questões culturais, para tanto devendo ser incentivada a prática da tolerância, a convivência pacífica entre os povos vizinhos.

In 1996, the General Assembly invited Member States to observe the International Day for Tolerance on 16 November, with activities directed towards both educational establishments and the wider public (resolution 51/95 of 12 December). This action came in the wake of the United Nations Year for Tolerance, 1995, proclaimed by the Assembly in 1993 (resolution 48/126). The Year had been declared on the initiative of the General Conference of UNESCO.
